During the second half of the meeting we all participated in a fun 'Community Asset Building' activity to discover what gifts the residents of Old Towne can share with each other to improve the neighborhood. Small groups discussed their gifts or interests, hobbies, and unique talents. There are a lot of fun, interesting people in Old Towne! Each group presented their group's assets to everyone. Check out the slideshow below for pictures of each group's work.
Alex Pharmakis, our new Recycling Education Coordinator, gave a very informative presentation on recycling and all the new changes to the recycling program offered by the city. Did you know that you can now recycle your plastic grocery bags and cardboard wax-lined cartons (juice and milk cartons, etc.)? Also, we will be offering textile recycling very soon. Alex's presentation slides can be found here.
We also went over some more results from our September 17th Service Day and viewed some great "before and after" pictures of some of the repairs. The City is very grateful for the amazing dedication, commitment, and heart for service of our volunteers.
We then continued our discussion on neighborhood assets. A group of residents had met with city staff to discuss a block party for the neighborhood. After a small presentation last night, several other residents have volunteered to join to help!
