In-Shelter Volunteers

Volunteers play an important part in providing a positive experience for animals temporarily housed at the Plano Animal Shelter and citizens interested in adopting. There are opportunities to work both directly and indirectly with animals. Volunteers serve as greeters, administrative assistants, photographers, cat or dog room attendants, kennel attendants, dog exercisers and socializers, and laundry attendants.

Foster Volunteers

Volunteers are always needed to open their hearts and homes on a temporary basis for dogs and cats of all ages as they grow, heal, socialize and adjust behaviorally in preparation to finding their forever home. Fostering pets that have temporary medical needs or are too young to be adopted gives them the chance to grow stronger and healthier before they make their adoption floor debut.  The care and socialization given during this time greatly increases cats and dog’s chances for adoption.

Offsite and Event Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to assist with off-site activities that promote the care and adoption of shelter animals at adoption, microchipping and spay/neuter events throughout Plano.

Group and One-Time Volunteers

Volunteer groups of 5-8 people are needed throughout the year to help with basic shelter duties and special projects. This is a great opportunity for corporate, faith-based/civic and school groups (18+) to spend a few hours helping around the shelter. Volunteers complete building-upkeep projects such as sorting, organizing, cleaning and laundry.

Other opportunities

If you would like provide additional support, the Plano Animal Shelter always appreciates your donations of much needed supplies for the shelter and animals. Host a supply drive with your friends, family and coworkers using this wish list  for our current needs. All ages are welcome to participate. Consider an opportunity for youth to assist with creating toys, treats and bedding for shelter animals.
